Fee: $125 for an adult dog (all dogs are spayed/neutered, up-to-date on
routine shots, tested negative for heartworm and on preventative, and microchipped. Many also already have received their rabies
vaccination.) $15 discount per dog when adopting two dogs.
How did he/she come to you?
When
one of the family members got sick, they decided that these two girls were too
much.
Bark bark is what first greets you when you see
them in their kennels! Nicknamed the “show” girls, they live up to their
reputation and always put on quite a performance so, don’t always present too
well in their kennel. Just ask to see them outside to meet the real
personalities hiding behind the barking!
Vivi (the
black one) loves walks and butt scratches. She wiggles it like there is
no tomorrow when she is happy, which is all the time she is outside. She
has also discovered the joys of playing fetch with tennis balls, with a special
affinity for the battered ones. When she drops it, she of course, expects
you to pick it up and throw it again, and sometimes even encourages you to do
so by getting into play-bow position and barking at you. She also likes
to play with her sister Goldie and can be at times a little bit bossy with her.
Goldie is a strong girl and pulls you right to the play area if you are
not going fast enough. She can outrun Vivi every time
and often teases her into chasing her. Unfortunately, Vivi
doesn’t do that for too long, especially since she has discovered tennis balls.
One volunteer thinks that Goldie definitely has some agility aptitudes and
might even welcome the opportunity to participate in that fun with her new
guardian(s). It only took her a couple of times to go up and down the A
frame. She also likes water and if there was a baby pool, she would often
jump in it to cool off this past summer.
They are a fun and loving
duo that wishes to remain together. They haven’t really had exposure to small
kids so, not sure how they would do with them, but teenagers would be great,
especially if they have a good throwing arm and they all have access to a
fenced-in yard.

Breed: Dachshund
Weight: 12.5 pounds
Shelter Info:
Adoption fee: $150.00
How did she come to us? Daisy came into the rescue from the results of a
divorce and long working hours.
Personality Traits: Daisy is one of the sweetest dogs you have ever met.
She gets along with everyone. Even though she is partially blind,
she loves to play ball. If you roll it past her, she picks up the scent,
and brings it back to you. Daisy is crate and housetrained. She
loves to go for car rides and walks in the park. She loves to sit in your
lap, loves to cuddle, and her favorite is belly rubs. Daisy loves soft squeaky
toys and she has never destroyed any but can play for hours squeaking them.
She will make a very loyal and loving companion for anyone. Since
she is blind, small children scare her when they run pass her so, she should go to a home without small children.
Medical Issues: Daisy Mae is up to date on rabies and DHPP vaccinations.
She is spayed and was found heartworm and fecal negative. She is
also micro-chipped. Daisy is a diabetic and needs 2 insulin shots daily.

How did he/she come to you?
Two
microchips and a dilemma! Poor Jonathan was found as a stray with two
microchips and unfortunately neither one of them turned out with current
addresses. His rescuer knew there was something special about this dog
and tried really hard to find someone to take him. Unfortunately, some deemed
him too old...and even though Save-A-Pet was full, as usual, she pleaded her
case so well that when a spot became available, Jonathan was taken in, saved in
the last minute.
He
walks well on leash and just seems to be an overall really well-behaved and
content dog. Seeing him get all excited when he first gets out of his kennel is
just so endearing – you can almost see him smile ear to ear. Only once
you start walking do you notice that his back legs are not always synchronized
with the front ones. He has hip issues however is not a surgery candidate
(which Save-A-Pet would have of course paid for as we have for many other
dogs).
So,
his walk can at times get a little bit wobbly, but this doesn’t slow him down
in the least. He doesn’t just want to sit or lay down somewhere.
When he is out, he wants to walk around, sniff and explore all the grounds, and
of course leave some “pee-mail” for the other dogs.
Johnathon is also hard of hearing so, while he might not be
bothered by loud noises such as young kids screaming, he would probably enjoy a
quieter lifestyle with a couple of people that like to go for walks and take
their time to enjoy the blue sky, the sun, or even the snow. Every walk
brings a little joy!
Johnathon doesn’t realize that finding his home might be
harder than a younger dog, he has faith that his perfect match is out there…so
anyone that can help spread the word about this gentleman is encourage to do
so.

One of these things IS like the other!

If
you guessed the DOG, you’re right! On the bottom is Tramp, the family dog from
“My Three Sons” a sitcom, which ran from 1960 to 1972. On the top is Perdy. She bears quite a resemblance to Tramp,
however unlike Tramp, Perdy needs a HOME. Her
current family is those pictured who care for and visit her at the
shelter. Please consider providing Perdy her
forever home! She’s truly a star!
Perdy is a terrier mix with a unique and beautiful
coat. She is auburn, gold, and brown with black highlights. She is
a smart dog with an intelligent, endearing face. Perdy
is about 4 years old. Perdy has had a
tough life and deserves better. She came to the humane society as a
stray. At some point, she was apparently mistreated and sometimes
exhibits shyness. She is sometimes afraid of / aggressive towards other
dogs, but when formally introduced to people and animals, she generally does
well. She loves to have her tummy rubbed and her coat brushed. Perdy will be a wonderful addition to a family. Her
humane society foster families and the Animal Care staff all speak highly of Perdy. You can meet Perdy

fee: $200.00 Amber has been spayed, she is up to date on all shots, has been
tested negative for heartworm, and is on preventative.
How did he or she come to you?
Amber lived in the same house all of her life. Unfortunately, because of
a divorce, she was turned over to rescue.
Personality traits:
Amber is very active and playful for her age. She loves to run and chase
every animal that comes into the back yard. Amber is a typical dachshund
and does not like the rain--she will hold it all day until the rain stops. She
is crate and baby gate trained and sleeps in her crate at night. She must
have a blanket in her crate because she loves to burrow. When you pick up
her leash, she dances around because she loves to go for walks. Amber
does not like to go for rides in the car--she gets very nervous and upset. We
are working on this by taking small trips around the block then coming home to
play. She is a wonderful lap dog and loves belly rubs.
How is he/she with other animals? Children?
Amber does not like other dogs or any other 4 legged animal.
She needs to go to a home where she is the only pet. She also does
not like young children. She really needs to be socialized.

How did he/she come to you?
Soxy has lived in the same home
for most of her life. Unfortunately, there was a death in her family so
she found herself whisked out of the home she had known and loved for years.
The other spouse for some reason didn’t want to keep her. Soxy
was quite and still is devastated and can often be found pacing in her
kennel…hence maybe people overlooking her.
Personality Traits
Soxy loves to play fetch.
She knows what you may be thinking: “she is eight years old, how much energy
can she really have?” The answer is plenty! She is an extremely
playful girl. In fact, she is more active in the play yard than a lot of
the younger dogs around here. Now of course her age does factor in
somewhere. How, you may ask. Well, it means that she is very good
at playing games in a “civilized” fashion. She has learned how to play
all of the great games like fetch and tug without forgetting her manners.
She does not jump up or nip, even at her most excited. She loves going for
walks as well and her leash manners are quite exceptional. Her favorite
season is winter because she really likes snow. She likes to roll around
in it. It’s pretty cute to watch too because all of the snow packs up in
her fur and when she stands up, she looks like a giant snowball!
I
really don’t have too many requirements. I think I would fit well into
just about any situation. I just want someone to love again. I am
really good with kids of all ages so if you want a kid-friendly dog, I am your
girl. I also enjoy taking walks and playing, so if that was on your list
of things to do with your new dog, then I’m your girl. I would also do
just fine in a slower paced environment and would be content to lie by your
feet in the evenings quietly chewing on a bone. I would, however, like to be
the only dog in your family. I have so much love and devotion left to
give to my new family. Won’t you please consider giving an older girl a chance?
Soxy can be a little bit shy around new people, but just
spend a little bit of time with her and she will warm up quickly.

Diane is a nine (9) year old beautiful calico kitty who was

home and live happily ever after for many years to come.

Name: Wesley
Age: ~15 years
Breed: Wirehaired Dachshund
Weight: ~12lbs
Shelter
Info:
Adoption fee: $150
How
did he come to you?
Wesley came to MWDR in April 2005 after he was rescued from a
puppy mill breeding facility where he was being used as breeding stock.
Personality
Traits:
Wesley is "THE MAN" and still quite active for his age. Despite
living his life at a breeding facility, Wesley is the sweetest little doxie you'll ever meet. He's a happy guy whose tail is always
wagging.
He is mostly potty trained.
He needs to be let outside often and may have an accident once in a
while. He uses the doggie door like a champ! Wesley is crate and baby-gate
trained.
He is very eager to please
and is a perfect lap companion. He's always ready to cuddle and get belly rubs!
How
is he with other animals? Children?
Wesley would love to go to
a home with someone who has another adult or senior dachshund or other
dog for companionship. He loves being around older dogs, but does not like
the young ones that get in his face all the time. Older, respectable
children would be ok.

Many also already have received their rabies vaccination.)
How did he/she come to you?
A no-kill shelter was
closing down and Save-A-Pet took in 18 dogs, thanks to a local boarding kennel
and many foster homes that took a dog in on a temporary basis. She was part of
quite an expedition!
Quite a little hobo at
times, she drinks from puddles in the sand play area or digs for old treats. We
are not even sure if she has ever been in a home environment. She probably
hasn’t had a lot of exposure to many things and would therefore need help with
confidence building as well as getting comfortable in new surroundings. As she
is quite a copy cat…ooops or should we say copy dog,
she would probably do better in a home that already has another dog. She often
follows their lead. She would of course still need people willing to spend time
one on one with her.
She has been to the
Small kids and/or a busy
household might overwhelm her too much.
And if you don’t have a dog
yet, she would love to go home with one of her sisters…maybe between relatives
and friends or neighbors, she and her “two sisters” could all get adopted. This
way they could easily keep in touch with each other.
